All Is Well

// September 24th, 2005 // Flotsam & Jetsam

We briefly lost power twice during the morning, but that was about the
extent of our discomfort. That, and Jay not being able to find a
Wendy’s hamburger.

Funny what you’ll miss when you can’t have it, eh? I’m enjoying a ham
and cheese sandwich that would be a lot better if we had mustard.
(Still in the fridge back at the apartment.) Still, it’s pretty good,
even if it’s not Wendy’s.

Jay and I drove around earlier to see what could be seen. It seems the
worst that the area experienced was a couple of small signs blown down.
Lawns are carpeted with leaves and there’s trash here and there, but
that’s it.

We did see some gas stations open but none that were selling gas. We
stopped at a corner convenience store to get a Coke for Jay – I wanted
a water, but they didn’t have any.

So, all in all, Rita turned out to be a non-event here in west Houston,
and we’re all very thankful for that. We are keeping the others that
were treated less kindly by Rita in our thoughts and prayers.
