Getting my geek on
In: Flotsam & Jetsam
27 Sep 2005It’s a quarter to six and I’m sitting here with my floppy-eared dog reading my friend’s LiveJournal entries.
Her journal entries are so much more interesting than mine. Of course,
she’s a much more interesting person than I am. I’ve sold out in my old
age and gotten practical – left being exciting behind a long time ago.
Now I’m more concerned with getting my house decorated and filling my
brake fluid. Sigh.
She’s off in Metairie, LA as a FEMA inspector. She says that everyone’s
telling her what a good thing she’s doing, but she’s filled with
doubts. Nicci, if you’re reading this, stop doubting! You’re doing a
good thing, a GREAT thing, and I’m very proud of you! In fact, I’m
envious of you. I want to be doing good things, too, but now I’m
too practical for that. (Getting up and leaving my comfy life behind to
go live in squalor so that I can help people get their lives back
together, all while battling the idiots that run the government.) So
instead I do things like send in Red Cross donations, donate every darn
thing that I think will be useful (we donated all of our hurricane
supplies to Katrina victims so we had none when Rita hit – very swift),
and bankroll private mercy missions. Being practical is not nearly as
interesting as being on the front lines. Maybe when the kids go off to
college I won’t be nearly as practical!
On a happier note, this weekend is the last weekend of moving! Yaaayyy!
However, I think I will be unpacking forever. Wherever did we get all
this stuff?
I blog of gadgets and digital hijinks.
