Caught Abbey Rode at FBI Rock Club #2 Last Night

If you don’t have a good time at an Abbey Rode show, something is wrong with you. Abbey Rode is becoming as much known for their audience participation as they are for their spot-on performance of Beatles tunes.
If you haven’t checked them out yet, you’re missing out on a great time. Grab a gaggle of friends the next time they play and come on out for a good time. Bring your bubbles!

Better late than never?

Well here’s one from the whoopsie! file. I was going through photo directories so that I could do some archving, and came across shots of Jailbreak from a gig in April that had never even been processed.

So here they are. Now I’m off to look for more lost goodies.

Powerload at The Concert Pub

Jay, Cindy and I went to The Concert Pub on Saturday night and saw Powerload, an AC/DC tribute band. They were very good, and I took a few shots.

We only stayed for half of their set because my allergies were killing me, but we were there long enough to see Gordon, and his son who had just returned from Iraq. Powerload honored his service to our country by bringing him up to the stage to do shots. The crowd gave the soldier a rousing ovation, and I’m sure there were many people thoughout the night thanking him for his service. I’m sure Gordon, himself a career soldier, must have been proud. I know I was!

Chattanooga Pics

Whoa, Nelly! Lots to tell, too little time. But I’ll try.

We had a great time in Chattanooga and even managed to find a Steak ‘n Shake while we were there! (Hey, we’re malt connoisseurs, what did you expect?) My family was great, and my cousin Darryl makes the best BBQ you have ever had. Simply sinful! We visted Ruby Falls, and Rock City. I took bunches of photos – too many in fact – and I’ve started putting some of them up tonight.
Now that we’re back, I’ve started looking for exactly the right job. I seem to be the kiss of death (or fortune, really) to all of the companies I’ve worked for. They’re always acquired! Of course, although this is fortunate for the respective owners, it does put a bit of a crimp in my style. I like to call this an example of doing my job too well. Ah, well, such is the risk when you specialize in small-to-mid-sized companies.

I’m still doing freelance work on the side until I find THE job – I do have to keep myself in camera lenses and CF cards, after all. I’m currently working on another band site, and a site for a general contractor in Louisiana. I’ve seen this GC’s trim work, and he’s truly an artist. I’m looking forward to helping him showcase his masterpieces.

I have a couple of promising leads on the job front, however, and I’m really looking forward to going back to work full-time (or 3/4 time.) I am hoping to get in with a business that will need as much of my diverse skill set as possible. (Design, photography, copywriting, etc.) I am ready!

Best party of the year!

Frankie, owner of Forgetta’Bout It, threw a smashing party last night that was attended by the elite of the Houston rock scene. Seen in the crowd were John Adams of Jailbreak, Rob Howl of Midnight Circus, the incomparable shredder Ajax, Randy Dickey of Damascus, Bobby Blotzer of Ratt, Lee and Val Seals of WolfeBlitzer, Joe Caine -formerly of Escape and Mystic Cross, Jeff Clifton and Chuck McFadden of Azreal’s Bane, Donny Bragg, and many more. Other partygoers included Cindy Close, Mike and Alpha Settle, Pam Thompson, PV, Dara Springer, Jackee Clifton, Libby Conway, Cindy Dickey, Andrea, and Kymberly.

Abbey Rode started the festivities off with a true-blue set of Beatles music. In what’s becoming an Abbey Rode tradition, the birthday boy and 40 of his closest friends joined them onstage for “Birthday.”

Already Gone took the stage next and had the crowd cheering and singing along. One word – INCREDIBLE! If you haven’t seen them, and you like the Eagles, this is your group! Also making an appearance during their set was Bobby Blotzer, who guested on drums during “Long Run.”

Ratt tribute band Back For More capped the evening off with headbangin’ classics like “You’re In Love”, and of course, “Round and Round.”

Abbey Rode photos up!

Well, they’re finally done! I turned in almost 30 photos to Jay of Abbey Rode. From there, he’ll choose which ones they want on their site. I’ve posted the 10 that I think are the best – mostly crowd shots. (The lights bit that night. The guy that was supposed to run them didn’t show up, so whatcha gonna do?) In any case, we managed to pull out a few good ones.

Still working on the site…

It feels like I’ll never be done with this redesign. Of course, as soon as I’m done, I’ll want a new design.

I’m still working on the Already Gone and Abbey Rode photos, which I hope to have up very soon. I’d better get it in gear because I’m supposed to shoot them at Forgetta’Bout It this weekend.

I’m really excited about the Forgetta’Bout It gig. It’s Frankie’s birthday bash (Frankie’s the owner and a HUGE supporter of the local music scene) and if anyone deserves a huge fete for their birthday, it’s him. Plus, word is getting around about how good Already Gone is, and the buzz is strong. Sounds like there will be a big crowd, and it’s always fun to watch a band interact with the crowd.

So, no band pics yet, but I will leave you with a couple of shots I took the other day in the the Uptown area of Houston. (I LOVE this city!)

Well, I’ve finally got this blasted thing up and running. It’s not exactly the way I wanted it, but what remains to be done are mostly cosmetic issues, and I’m tired of having an outdated site!

I have some “new” photos up of Sound Breaking Ground and Damascus, including a shot of some very popular audience members. I also have some photos in the chute of Already Gone’s debut performance, along with photos of the first band on the bill, Abbey Rode. (Lots of crowd shots, too. If you were in the audience, be sure to take a look – you’re probably in there.)

Sound Breaking Ground

118Caught Sound Breaking Ground last night at FBI. Those boys put on a hell of a show. They pulled in a good-sized crowd, and notable amongst them were Chuck Wright (bassist, Quiet Riot), Keri Kelli (guitarist, Alice Cooper, Slash’s Snake Pit), and Bobby Blotzer (drummer, Ratt.)

To all of the friends and family that I mercilessly pestered for votes, your time and diligence paid off and are VERY appreciated. Stride performed last night with Bon Jovi and was fantastic! Of course I took my camera and I’ll be posting the pics later.
